Charles Higginbotham reminiscence, 1920?

Charles Higginbotham (1840-1927) of Dillon, Montana, worked as a stage driver throughout much of the West, especially Montana. This typed reminiscence (c. 1920) was prepared by A.W. Crowell for intended publication. It discusses Higginbotham's early experiences in the West, his arrival in Montana in 1864, and his stage driving and freighting years (1860s-1900). Collection consists of a 120-page typed reminiscence describing his life as a stage driver, freighter, miner, and gambler around the west. The manuscript was submitted to the State Publishing Company for possible publication.

Charles Higginbotham was born in Peoria, Illinois, on October 24, 1840. He worked for about a year as a pony express rider on a route from Independence Rock on the Sweetwater River to Pacific Springs. He then became a Wells Fargo stage driver from Fort Hallack to Bennett's Ferry. He arrived in Virginia City in 1864 and went to work for Pollinger's stage line.
